Jonesing for another Bubba

Poor Bland Pugh. Director of the Mutual UFO Network’s Florida chapter. Sixty seven years old. No closer to figuring it all out today than he was nearly two decades ago when he joined MUFON. Had a stroke about 10 years back. Still can’t let go.
“It’s a little like fishin’, I guess,” says the Gulf Breeze resident with the Alabama twang. “You never know what’s gonna bite on the other end of that line.” But hey, at least you get to pull the fish outta the water every now and then for a good hard look-see. “Yeah,” he adds, “and sometimes you find out it’s not even legal.”
Anyway — here’s what he’s got: No budget, 23 MUFON-certified volunteer field investigators, and an average of 24-27 Florida sighting reports each month. Give or take. No real trends going down right now. Triangles were big early this year, but they’ve tapered off.
Things were a lot more encouraging 20 years ago when UFOs were buzzing the western panhandle with regularity and skywatchers gathered by the water’s edge practically every night. Back then, they called it Bubba. Bubba was a lot of fun, like a pinata just out of whacking range.See the rest of story, and video by Clicking Here.
No explanation for ‘UFO’ at Sindh farm yet
By Amar Guriro

KARACHI: No government department, law enforcement agency or the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has yet claimed responsibility for the mysterious polyethylene balloon carrying a circuit board, microchips, batteries and other equipment, which landed on the agricultural land of President Asif Ali Zardari in district Tando Allahyar about 200km away from Karachi on Tuesday.

Some peasants were working on Ansari Farm, which is located beside a small village Sanjar Chang near Misan town of district Tando Allahyar, when a six-feet high and four-feet wide balloon landed on the ground. The balloon panicked the people and they came up with all sorts of theories, some terming it as divine wrath from the sky while some fearing that drones were attacking them.

Hundreds of the locals gathered at the site. District government officials also rushed to the site and later a bomb disposal squad checked the balloon and confirmed it was carrying no explosive material.

The Misan police seized the balloon for further inquiry. The district government and the police contacted different government departments including the Sindh Environmental Protection Agency, PMD and law enforcement agencies to ascertain what the balloon was used for. UFO update: More strange lights and shapes seen in sky

A MABLETHORPE man has contacted the Leader with claims of extraordinary UFOs recently sighted in the skies over the town.
The man, who asked not to be named, visited the Leader office last week to explain what he witnessed was ‘beyond belief’.

He said: “There were four ultra bright orange lights moving silently along in the sky at around 10.45pm on Tuesday night.
“What I saw were definitely not planes, Chinese lanterns, shooting stars, Meridian lights or anything else easily explainable. One looked like a massive pantomime star with shards of light coming off it, and this wasn’t just a reflection of light in the juice of my eyes.

“A friend of mine also saw them, we’ve seen flying lanterns before but these were not them.” See the photo and rest of story Here

UFOs reported near George Bush’s ranch.

Interesting MUFON report of a radar confirmed UFO near George Bush’s Crawford ranch in Texas – the object(s) were also witnessed by several people including a police officer.

As reported on the Joint Recon Study Group site, in a one-two punch within the past 24 hours, two more significant elements of the Stephenville, Texas, UFO sightings have occurred.
The information is astounding.
And there may be more to come.
Late Thursday night, the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) released an extraordinary report about radar evidence pertaining to activities in the skies in the Stephenville region on Jan. 8, 2008.
Then, this evening, the widely-watched CNN program “Larry King Live” featured the two authors of the MUFON report, several of the Stephenville witnesses, the former local newspaper reporter who first broke the story and other guests.
The combined impact of these two developments has again put attention on this rural region of northeast Texas approximately 70 miles southwest of Fort Worth, the people who live there, investigators looking at the situation and the news media reporting about it all.
The authors of the MUFON report, Glen Schulze and Robert Powell, obtained radar information through the filing of 10 requests through the federal Freedom of Information Act.
They received information from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), National Weather Service, all nearby military bases, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Services and the 21st and 30th Air Force Wing Commands, according to published reports.
They concluded that there were multiple non-military aircraft in the region that were unidentified and these correlated with witness reports. There was also unusually heavy military air traffic in the region that night.
BUSH RANCH AT CRAWFORD
Ever since news of the multiple sightings by highly-credible witnesses in areas around Stephenville and nearby Dublin, there has been speculation that the military jets seen in the area at the same time as the UFOs could be related to security for the Bush Ranch at Crawford, about 40 miles to the southeast.
Larry King asked about this on his show. Angelia Joiner, the former local newspaper reporter whose articles first caught the attention of the mainstream media, noted that many local people had wondered if there was some connection to the Bush ranch. But she indicated she had no specific information.
Now, the MUFON report clearly states that there were aircraft flying in the area that night without the transponders – aircraft identifier devices – and at least one appeared to be flying in the direction of the no-fly protective zone around the Bush ranch.
The MUFON investigators claim that one UFO without a transponder was within 10 miles of the Bush ranch.
According to the MUFON report, “The object was traveling to the southeast on a direct course towards the Crawford Ranch, also known as President Bush’s western White House.”
The report concluded,”The last time the object was seen on radar at 8 p.m., it was continuing on a direct path to Crawford Ranch and was only 10 miles away. During the entire episode of over an hour, there is no indication that any of the military jets reacted to this unknown craft.”
The object was tracked by radar heading in the direction of the Bush ranch for approximately one hour, the report stated. Moving at a speed of 532 miles per hour at one point, the object primarily was traveling at 60 mph.
MEDIA ON THE JOB
As usual, CNN host Larry King asked intelligent and common-sense questions of his guests.
The MUFON investigators pointed out that the extensive radar data indicated an extremely high level of activity – and unusual activity at that – in the region that includes Stephenville and Crawford that night. See the rest by Clicking Here

Flying Saucer Review Volume 2: The Phenomenon.

on by NW0.eu in UFOs, Comments (0)

I’ll begin by apologizing for the lack of cogent imagery that accompanies this blog–my inability to illustrate anything [where I'm located now] cripples some of that. But “pretty” is not the big thing now, so onwards. The 1956 FSR contained approximately 110 case mentions. Of those, 71 were “Objects” [something structural seen at distance]. 15 more were “Lights” [odd behaving but not seen as a structure]. This left only 24 other types of cases, or about 22%. So, the phenomenon was still largely USAF-like or Keyhoean. There were 8 picture cases and 4 radar cases. Still, a la USAF/Keyhoe. Of the twelve remaining incidents, 6 were CE2s, two were CE3s, and four were of miscellaneous types [one being a CE1]. Therefore, unless one wanted to credit contacteeism, the amount of High-strangeness being reported was pretty low. I’ll use the 1956 Walt Disney advertisement below to help amuse you while I thumbnail describe some of the more interesting reports.—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-
{Remember folks that I don’t have access to my files to check these cases out against other information. I’m going on what’s in the FSR and what I remember about the cases–often very little except distant bells ringing–there are an awfully lot of incidents out there. So, if a case seems intriguing to you, don’t necessarily just trust that it’s “good” just because I’ve put it in here. Research it yourselves.} There was a report from Kalispell, MT for the evening of September 3/4, 1956. It was a multi-witnessed case which involved both military and civilian personnel. What they saw was described by some as a triangle and by others as an orange ball of light. One witness said that it looked like a triangle with an aura of colored glow around it, which could be a clue to reconciling the differences. Radar couldn’t pick it up, but it was easily seeable. The military scrambled jets but a low ceiling of clouds [the object was skimming the mountains (apparently) beneath them] thwarted the jets. —- Another interesting “object” case was from Cheltenham, UK in June [day not specified] 1956. Here three apparently independent witnesses viewing from different locations saw what they felt was a huge object “ten times the size of any existing aircraft” soundlessly hovering, starting, hovering, starting for a ten minute sighting. The thing “was blazing with light which came from inside and showed through extremely large square windows”. If this incident had any decent sort of follow-up at all [even news interviews] it should count as a powerful case due to the separateness of the witnesses. —- The third “objects” case which i thought good was from Pasadena,CA [actually in the air from a plane]. The date was January 3, 1956. Two civilian owners of an aerial photography company were returning from a job when they encountered three brilliant orange disks at about 4000 feet. Wouldn’t you know it: these professional photographers had their equipment stowed and couldn’t get to it. The best that they could do was to try to track the objects, making tight turns to keep the objects in front of them if they could. They estimated the objects at 50 feet in diameter. Their plane eventually got circled by the three at a distance of perhaps 4 to 5 miles. If anywhere close on their distance estimate, the photographers calculated the UFO speed at around 1200mph. ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————–All of the radar cases were interesting, particularly the one at Paris’ Orly Airport, but I’m moving on. In late 1955, Florida was having a mini-flap. On October 30, a police officer of the Williston force saw six lighted objects flying in formation with one lagging behind. One of them turned and dropped lower. The officer pursued and the object flew directly over him. The thing was a brilliantly bright “wash-tub-shaped” whats-it. The environment around him became very hot and he got “pins-and-needles” all over. The object just continued on its way and was gone. One other person had a fairly good view of this thing as well. It was reported to the USAF. —- My favorite [believable] case for this volume is Gjersjoen Lake, Norway, [date not given in FSR, but I've seen something on this elsewhere--again, sorry]. There were two witnesses, a [paintings] painter and his neighbor. An object came around a hill and swung about to travel down the lake. This light began to follow their car [at least they were sure that they were being pursued]. It flew in front of them and stopped in the road. The painter stopped his car. They felt that the thing [now appearing to them as a shiny disk with wing-like protrusions] was scrutinizing them. It radiated a strong greenish-white light which seemed to break over them in waves. It sat there and rotated part of its structure. It seemed to have some kind of cockpit on top, though they saw no entities. As in the previous case they got “pins-and-needles” over their faces. The driver’s watch stopped functioning, and needed extensive repair to get it running again. The object took off straight up, and the witnesses drove home. On arriving at his house, his wife ran out and asked him if he had purchased a new car. Its former beige color was now a shiny tint of green. The next day the car had returned to normal, though it is doubtful that the witnesses had.—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————–
And now, the outer limits of this year: I mentioned the strange business of Elisabeth Klarer last time. I’ll let you take that from there–there are other tales to tell. [and I'm not going to do justice to any of them]. I’ll start with something that we all know about: the 1952 Sonny Desverges ["Florida Scoutmaster"] case. What we know is that Desverges initially reported a believable close encounter where he got burnt and maybe shocked, and a trace effect was found. Then he magnified the story past all credibility [fighting off aliens heroically on the rim of their spacecraft] which, coupled with his reputation as a teller of whoppers, ruined the case. Except it didn’t. The reason that it didn’t was one of the most mysterious radiation effects in the literature. The plants at the site had their roots “burned” as if microwaved several inches below the ground. Ruppelt could never get this out of his craw, took the case to the Robertson Panel, talked about it when he lectured new intelligence officers, and probably went to his grave puzzled. Well, me too. FSR had two mentions of Desverges-related information: one positive [out of Ruppelt's book] and one negative [from a person who interviewed Desverges during his whacko period, and found him, well, whacko.] My take on this case is that it is one of the best trace cases in UFOlogy with one of the worst primary witnesses. UFOlogists reveal something about themselves when they discuss this case. Do they allow “character” to trump physical evidence?, or the other way around?————————–I’m going to jump now to a situation that I regard as distressingly similar. This is the Salvador Villanueva Medina case of mid-August 1953. He was a cab driver who was ferrying Americans to the border when the car broke down. The tourists abandoned him and he spent the night at the vehicle. During that night he was visited by two individuals who claimed to be extraterrestrials. They discussed their planet and asked questions in return. Later he watched them leave in their craft. This is a very convoluted story, and I am concerned about bringing it up. This is for two reasons: a). the story needs a lot of telling and I haven’t the energy; but mainly b). the story needs my file on the case. In that file are the data that makes this a far more believable case than what’s been argued about out there on the web. The web has its persons who use cases like Villanueva’s to bash prominent UFO writers like Vallee and Phillips and many others. In fact there is a site wherein one researcher does an admirably huge amount of work gathering information and quotes about the case. The trouble is, he, in my reading, has missed all the earliest and most significant information about this event. The debunk-and-trash masters use [understandably] a small book under Villanueva’s name which tells of travels to Venus and all manner of outlandish claims which had no place in the original tale. In this, the case is just like Desverges. [a picture of the cover of the wild tale is above]. The real story is told not by Desmond Leslie in FSR [as almost everyone goes back to] but rather by Bryant Reeve and his wife Helen in their “romantic” book, but also in some rare letters and notes to the also-rare newsletter of the Detroit Flying Saucer Club. [now you see why I need my files]. Those sources tell a perfectly credible story of how Villanueva decided to break silence at a lecture by Reeve well before Adamski had anything to do with the story, and before Adamski made a telling visit to Villanueva where he quizzed him for information. Reeve et al went out to the site and, with difficulty found it. There were unusual charrings of bushes at the landing area, and this is why it appears in catalogs of landings [Vallee] and traces [Phillips]. I can’t say whether Villanueva had a CE3 or not. What I believe that I can say is that his original story came out in a “natural” way, was told without excessive puffery, and was checked out by Reeve and several locals. If later Villanueva decided to supplement his taxi-driver’s salary with a bogus tale, well, Sonny Desverges you’ve got company. I don’t rate the “Mexican Adamski” case high like I do the scoutmaster case, because I don’t have the quality of investigation to trump the later personality-defect. But I refuse to toss it entirely away either.———————————————————————————————————————————————-Just a few other things: the September 8, 1956 TwinFalls, ID calf-napping case was mentioned here. This is where it was reported that a ranch owner/attorney and two employees witnessed a UFO “abduct” a 400 pound steer from the pasture. This case was later panned by the UFO community who felt they had found errors in it. But James McDonald made his own investigation of the event and got a clearer story of what went on, thus placing it back into the credible category for Big Mack and myself. [again, sorry for my missing files---maybe when I return home for a week's break I can rescue some of this information if any of you want the more detailed stuff on some of this; I'll need a specific request though].—-Also, the Monelmore,Ireland case made the magazine. This is where a farmer was confronted with a small object falling in his fields. It was an elongated sphere [three foot six by two feet in its diameters]. It was red and rubbery. On the top was a knob and round the middle went four white stripes which faded into the red color. He picked it up and walked off with it! Stopping to push his way through a hedge, he laid the thing down. It promptly whisked up and out through the skies not to be seen again. The “little one that got away”. —–A last brief mention needs be made of the article by Charles Maney of the new NICAP. He wrote to describe his collection of reports on angelhair cases. Maney had collected 17 incidents of which 14 had a UFO associated and 9 had the disintegration or sublimation effect. The high strangeness element of disappearance due to sublimation [or some thorough disintegration] is the key to any of this and my reading of the phenomenon is that this aspect is extremely rare after 1955. If that’s true, it’s a shame, but it also says one more time:this phenomenon changes the way it expresses itself. I would “go to war” for angelhair with the Marysville, OH and Puente, CA cases, and add in the classics from Oloron and Gaillac in France. Other than those, I’m not sure what I’ve got in this category. [even though my own angelhair file at home has nearly a hundred claims in it]. ———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-
Folks, I’m not sure how much good I or 1956 FSR did here, but I think that both of us were trying to do what we could under non-ideal circumstances. At least, as you see directly above, all this talk has inspired someone to make more pie, and that is something the world needs more of.

07/03/2010 – Rochester UFO Sighting & Photographs

on 10/03/2010 (2 days ago) by NW0.eu in UFOs, Comments (1)

Birmingham UFO Group Report
Author: Dave Hodrien
Release Date: 11/03/2010

This report covers a multiple witness sighting of a bright star-like object which was observed moving around the sky for quite a long time. During the sighting a number of photographs were taken, which are analyzed later. Jayne Scopes, the mother of the family, contacted me shortly after the incident to ask for my opinion on these photographs.

Sighting Details

At around 10.30pm on Sunday 7th March 2010, Jayne’s daughter Bekki was in the back garden of her house on Peal Close, Rochester, Kent, with her boyfriend Mackenzie. It was a relatively clear but cold night, with very little cloud cover. Both the stars and moon were visible. Bekki noticed in the night sky to the South West West what at first appeared to be a very bright star, which looked like it was flashing and rapidly changing colour between red, blue and green.

Since her gran died, her mum has always said that her gran can be seen as the brightest star in the sky. After 10 minutes, she and her boyfriend went back inside the house and called Jayne, telling her that she could see gran’s star flashing in the sky. She came out to take a look. At first Jayne thought the object was just a large bright star, and that the blinking effect was caused by light cloud passing in front of it. She called out her husband Trevor to also take a look. They both decided it must be a star and headed back inside.

A short while later, Bekki informed her that the “star” had moved position in the sky. Jayne was curious and so went back outside and stood and watched the object with them for a while. Sure enough it was slowly moving across the sky on a straight flight path. It was now that they realised it was an object within the atmosphere. It looked like it was over the area of Wainscott. Jayne assumed it must be a helicopter and so once again returned inside with her husband. Bekki and her boyfriend continued to watch the object.

Aerial map showing location of witnesses and area over which UFO was probably situated:

Ten minutes later, she called her parents back outside again, telling them that the object was now moving more. Her younger sister and her boyfriend also headed out to see what the fuss was all about. Sure enough the object’s movement was more noticeable now. It moved towards their direction, then away, then to the right and back again at a constant speed. It was completely silent, and it was hard to judge exactly how high it was or how big it was, and whether it was a complete glowing object or a light on a bigger object.

Bekki suggested to Jayne that she should try photographing the object on her mobile phone camera. When she did so it came out too dark, so Bekki went to get her digital camera, zoomed in on the object and started to take photographs from the patio. At first she tried with the flash on, but the images were dark and nothing came out. However with the flash off, the camera picked up the object as a long bright orange erratic line (See photograph analysis).

The sighting continued for about an hour, then suddenly without warning the object vanished. The witnesses were sure it was not obscured by cloud, as it was quite a clear night, and the area of the sky where the object was situated was completely clear. The object, whatever it was, had disappeared without trace.

The witnesses remained out in the garden for several minutes longer to see if the object would reappear but it did not. It was very cold so they all decided to head inside.

Sighting Analysis

This is a very interesting sighting, and although the object was distant with no clear shape or structure, certain aspects point towards it being something unusual. Many sightings of slowly moving glowing orbs of light can probably be put down to Chinese lanterns. However lanterns are usually a fiery orange colour, not bright white, or any of the other colours the object was set to flash. Also the sighting lasted for an hour, this is far too long for a lantern to have stayed lit (they can stay lit for up to 45 mins but usually burn out much faster), and it would almost certainly have drifted away from the area in this time.

Could the object have been a helicopter at high altitude, so high that the witnesses could not hear the rotor blades? Perhaps, but this does not explain how it suddenly vanished without trace, the pilot certainly would not have switched all the lights off after dark. If the object was over the area of Wainscott where it appeared to be, then Jayne says they would certainly have been able to hear any loud noise coming from it.

As the object changed course and moved back and forth, it could not have been a satellite or the International Space Station, and it was visible far too long to have been an earth light. Besides these do not usually appear over urban areas. Also it appeared to be under intelligent control. The true origin of the object is currently unknown.

Photographic Analysis

Below are the photographs Bekki took with the flash on:

As you can see, the images are too dark to pick much up. Most show blurred shapes but nothing distinct. In one of the photographs the object has appeared as an erratic faint white line. I assume this has been caused by camera shake when taking the photograph while zoomed in (Contact me and let me know if you have another suggestion). Below are the images she subsequently took with the flash turned off:

The erratic line is now very clear indeed and glowing brightly. It is interesting that the colour seen is bright orange, yet the object appeared to be white with various flashing colours of red, blue and green. This orange colour is possibly due to the low light conditions (Again contact me if you have another suggestion).

For an unknown reason, the third photograph shows two distinct erratic orange lines, with a similar third paler line above and in between them, in triangular positioning. The pattern of the three lines is the same so I assume that this has been caused by loss of focus which has split the image into numerous duplicates. It is unlikely that the object split into three separate orbs of light, as this would have been visible with the naked eye.

In several of the photographs there is what appears to be a classic saucer-like shape with a raised central area above a disc, but this could be just be an illusion caused by the light captured, and I do not believe that these images prove it was a flying saucer or show the object’s true shape, I just find them interesting.

Firstly here’s two zoomed images taken from two of the photographs with the flash on:

On the second photograph with the flash turned off, the right hand end of the line looks like a small saucer shape, similar though not identical to the shapes above:

Are the above observations relevant or not? You’ll have to decide that for yourself. In the other photos the shapes do not represent a saucer at all, so this is far from conclusive.

There is no point of reference in the photos, but Jayne assures me they were taken looking into the sky visible above the end of the garden. I have no reason to doubt this, as there is no real incentive to make up the story, and she has been very open with me about all aspects of the sighting, which I am very grateful for.

Jayne says there are no other lights or reflective points in the garden which could have accounted for the glowing lines seen. She is sure that these are how the camera has picked up the object. There are some dull flecks of light which may be other stars in the night sky, but this is hard to say for certain.

I always enjoy receiving photographs to back up testimonial evidence, and currently this case will remain an intriguing mystery.

MUFON Case # 22245
Event Date:  03/09/2010 19:27
Location:  Delaware City, Delaware
Summary: Several Cigar Shaped Objects

Report:
I was driving 3/4 miles north of the “OLD ST. GEORGE’S” Bridge on rt. 13. I looked up and saw a cigar shaped object with 3 lights, as I got closer to the object, which was slowly moving southwest, I was able to make out windows in the object. There was no audible noise.

My friend called my cell phone just as I saw the object, I told him what was going on and he told me to double back. I did, the slow moving object was gone; however, I saw what appeared to be planes or helicopters now in the distance.

I continued on my original course, and again the same/duplicate object appeared in the same fashion. This time I drove directly under it. No noise, Moving at relativity low speed 50mph, Approx. 200 – 500 feet in the air, approx 70 – 90 feet long. Gray in color, cigar shaped.

I’m not sure what I saw, my friend was on the phone the whole time, I don’t have a camera so I couldn’t capture it. Dover AFB is located roughly 30 miles south of my position. Could these have been planes on a mission? I’ve never seen planes move so slowly, without noise. Definitely freaked me out.

I’m no saying it was alien, but it was an object I can’t easily identify. Hopefully someone can find out. This must have been seen by others, since rt 1 (a busy highway) runs directly parallel with my position.

August 1963 to 05/03/2010 – Byng Family UFO Sightings & Photographs

on by NW0.eu in UFOs, Comments (0)

Birmingham UFO Group Report
Author: Dave Hodrien
Last Updated: 11/03/2010

Some people never get to see what they can describe as a UFO their entire life. Many others have one, maybe two, sightings of something unusual that they remember for many years. However this report covers fourteen UFO incidents that have been witnessed by Kevin and Vera Byng, and their nephew Michael. With many of these incidents other witnesses have also been present.

After their early sightings the family, especially Kevin, became interested in the UFO subject. Over the years he has looked into it in great depth, and has continued to see things he could not explain. Kevin has worked as a delivery driver for the army, the Air Corps and the RAF, and he knows exactly what normal aircraft and helicopters look like at all times of the day and night. He is certain that the things him, Vera and Michael have witnessed cannot be explained by conventional means. As you will see, a number of the objects they have witnessed appear to perform intelligent manoeuvres and move at incredible speed.

When I went to interview the family about their sightings on 13th January 2009, I found that Kevin had already logged all the incidents for his own personal interest. He had drawn many pictures and created overhead maps to keep a detailed reminder of the various unusual objects they had witnessed over the years. Many of these drawings and maps are used in this report.

In October 2009 Michael had a stunning sighting of a clearly defined disc-shaped craft. On 18th October I interviewed Michael about the incident, and took some photographs of the sighting location. This sighting was also accompanied by some highly unusual sounds, that were heard not only by Michael, but by two other people that he knows (And possibly others yet to come forward).

In early March 2010, Kevin once again contacted me with details of another sighting of a white daylight orb which possibly followed an aircraft.

Each sighting will now be looked at in detail.

August 1963 – Cleobury Mortimer

During the first week of August 1963 back when Kevin was only 13 years old, the family were staying at a caravan they owned on a site to the North West of the village of Cleobury Mortimer in Shropshire. The site was built on three different levels, and the family’s caravan was on the middle of these levels. At the bottom of the site was a stream behind a fence, and beyond this a line of trees and then fields. The site was surrounded by hills, and at its west end was a road that led to the village.

Kevin cannot remember the exact date when the sighting occurred, but it was a very clear night. He woke up in the early hours of the morning to see a bright green glow behind the curtains of his bedroom in the caravan, which faced to the North. He looked outside and saw over the tree line what he could only describe as a green fireball moving from East to West. He watched it for about 5 seconds before it vanished behind one of the hills. He continued to look out of the window a while but did not see the object again.

The most interesting thing about this sighting is the colour of the object. If it was white, yellow or orange in colour it would be possible to assume that what was seen was a meteorite. However these do not usually appear bright green. Perhaps it was space debris of an unusual make up. But the object looked like it was on a relatively level path, not descending through the atmosphere. There was no sound during or after the sighting, and if something had crash landed it would surely have caused a loud explosion or been reported by the media soon afterwards. To this day, Kevin finds the sighting hard to explain, and does not know whether it was a natural phenomenon or something else entirely.

June 1964 – Warley, Birmingham

At the time of this incident, Kevin was 14 years old, and at secondary school. He had just arrived home on Elizabeth Crescent. He had a part time job at the local butchers after school, and needed to come home to change his clothes each day before setting out again. It was 4 pm when he arrived at his house, and he walked round to the back door to let himself in.

It was a bright sunny afternoon with light cloud cover and a medium breeze. He happened to glance up into the sky. Through a break in the clouds he saw five round objects travelling in a northern direction just above the cloud layer. They were a dull silver-grey colour and were flying in a rough V formation. At first he took them to be hot air balloons. He went indoors but then realised that they couldn’t be as they were travelling in the opposite direction to the clouds. He quickly went outside again but the objects had vanished. He ran around to the front of the house but did not see them again.

Could the objects have been a small flock of birds reflecting the sunlight? This is certainly a possibility, but Kevin says that the objects looked bigger and too defined, and appeared to be round in shape. If they were not birds then they appear to have been flying in formation, so we can assume that they were intelligently controlled and not randomly drifting objects. Also the fact that they were flying against the wind means that they must have been powered. It remains an intriguing case.

September 1973 – Penhale Point

Kevin joined the army back in 1970. After his training was complete, he was posted to a military port at Marchwood, opposite Southampton docks. In September 1973 he was taking part in an exercise at Penhale Point in Devon, 4-5 miles South West of Newquay.

During one of the night exercises, Kevin was driving a truck along a track that follows the cliff edge. He had been sent to collect a platoon of soldiers and return them to camp. As it was under simulated battle conditions he only had the side lights of the truck on. He had with him a small Kodak 125 “point and click” camera to get some pictures of his comrades.

It was around 2 o’clock in the morning. As he drove along the track he noticed to the west, quite a distance out over the sea, a dull orange ball of light. He stopped the truck to get out and try to photograph the object. The night was overcast and the stars could not be seen. There was a slight breeze and it was quite cool.

Because of the basic model of his camera, he didn’t expect anything to come out, but when he got the film developed he was pleased to see that he had managed to capture the object.

He could not judge how far out to sea the object was so it was hard for him to estimate its size as there was nothing to compare it too. It gave off a steady dull orange glow. It was moving in a northerly direction at about 50-60 mph. He watched the object until it disappeared beyond Ligger Point. After this he got back in the truck and continued his drive.

At the time he did not report the object to anyone as he thought that people higher in command may have thought he was a bit crazy for seeing the object. He has no idea what it was, but is certain that it wasn’t an aircraft or helicopter. Neither was it the light off a ship, it was much too high in the sky for it to have been this.

Chinese lanterns can appear as orange orbs of light in the sky, however it seems very unlikely that it was one of these. These were not readily available back in 1973. Also the object was seen quite far out to sea and appeared to be flying on a level path. It certainly sounds as if it was either a glowing airborne object of some kind, or a light attached to such an object.

Late 1979 – Quinton, Birmingham

Kevin got married to Vera in 1978 and moved into a bedsit on Gillott Road, Edgbaston. On an evening in the latter half of 1979 they had gone out to a cinema in the Quinton area. It was an overcast night but there was no wind. After the cinema they caught the bus home. The route followed Hagley Road and their stop was on a disused railway bridge. They got off the bus at around 10.30pm, along with another middle aged couple. To the north they saw a large glowing ball of pink light with a darker purple centre. Comparing it to the surrounding buildings, Kevin estimates that it was about 20 foot across. It was moving southward just above the trees from the direction of Birmingham centre. Both they and the other couple saw the object.

The ball of light was moving at around 40-50 mph. As they watched it suddenly turned a pale white colour, and then climbed at about 60 degrees into the sky before disappearing from sight.

None of the witnesses had any idea as to what the object could have been. It certainly seemed to have performed intelligently controlled movements. But the colour of the light emanating from the object, its apparent shape, and the manoeuvres it performed all seem to suggest it was not a conventional aircraft. It is also unlikely to have been caused by earth lights, as these do not generally appear over built up areas. Could the object have been some kind of remote controlled model? If so, then it does seem to be of quite a large size. For one reason or another, the object does not seem to fit in with most explanations and will therefore probably remain a mystery.

August 1984 – Weston-Super-Mare

In the summer of 1984, Kevin and Vera decided to make a day trip to Weston-Super-Mare. It was a warm day with some cloud cover, but was also quite breezy. They were walking around the resort enjoying their day out, and were approaching the pier. It was not overly crowded but there were other people around the area. Suddenly Vera saw an object up in the sky out to sea. She pointed at it and said “Look at that!” At first Kevin thought she was pointing at the small island named Steep Holm which lies about 6-7 miles off the coast, but then he saw the object she was actually pointing at. The object was dark in colour and a classic flying saucer shape. It was moving northwards at about 50 mph, and appeared to be about half way between the pier and the island. Kevin quickly raised his camera and took the below photograph.

Camera specs:

28-80mm lens

Shutter speed 250
No fitted filter
200 ASA Kodak Colour Film

The object was only visible for a few seconds before it had disappeared out of sight. Kevin is unsure if anyone other than him and Vera saw the object, but nobody appeared to be staring or pointing at it.

The shape of the object certainly fits in with it being a flying saucer. Kevin estimates that it was about 15 foot wide. When he got the photo developed, he thought that maybe he could have photographed a seagull in flight. However it seems unlikely as they saw the object with their own eyes and he took the photo in the direction that the object was sighted. It’s movement appeared to be powered rather than something just drifting in the wind like a balloon. This may well be a genuine sighting and photograph of a craft of unknown origin.

August 2002 – Winson Green, Birmingham

Back in 2002 Vera used to work at City Hospital in the centre of Birmingham. One morning in August she was outside having an early cigarette with two work colleagues. They would often meet first thing to relax a few minutes before work began. City Hospital covers quite a large area with many different buildings designated smoking area was next to the Eye Centre along the East edge of the hospital. South of them lay a derelict building, that used to be part of the hospital but was no longer in use. There were many rumours of the old building being haunted.

It was about 6.15am when suddenly Vera noticed a highly unusual object in the sky above the derelict building. She immediately pointed it out to her colleagues. It was a classic flying saucer shaped object with flashing coloured lights around the rim. Vera described it’s shape as a “similar to a top hat”. The entire object appeared to be glowing. The witnesses all stood transfixed watching the object for several minutes. It remained stationary, hovering in the sky. Suddenly it vanished without trace, as if it had just “switched off”. They were all extremely puzzled by what they had seen.

They finished their cigarettes and was wondering if they could afford the time to have a second smoke. Looking at their watches they found that all three of their watches had stopped at precisely 6.15am, the time they had first sighted the unusual object in the sky! They were both amazed and very spooked out by this, so quickly headed back inside.

Out of all the sightings witnessed over the years by the family, this is one of the most perplexing. The fact that three completely independent watches all stopped at exactly the same time certainly seems to suggest that the UFO was the cause. As far as Vera is aware there was no other nearby equipment which could have done this. Therefore this is stunning evidence pointing towards it being a genuine sighting rather than simple misidentification. There is a lot of documented evidence that UFOs can cause electrical or magnetic interference in their local area. For example, many people have reported that their car radio has stopped working, or electrical equipment (camera, phone etc) has inexplicably turned off. Also the appearance of the object, its shape, luminescence and flashing coloured lights also puts many alternative explanations out of the question, making this a fascinating sighting.

September 2002 – Smethwick

It was 5.30am on 11th September 2002, and Vera was waiting on Montague Road to be picked up by her work colleagues. She would do this every morning as this was her regular way of getting to work at City Hospital. The morning light had just started to come up and it was very quiet. She randomly looked up into the sky, and when she did she spotted a glowing white light which appeared to be very high up. It was moving slowly in a North Westerly direction. She watched for a number of seconds and then suddenly the light stopped moving. It remained still for a short while and then moved round in a semi circular path to its right. It then stopped again, before moving in a semi circular path again but to its left. It stopped a third time then began moving again. After a few more seconds it suddenly increased rapidly in altitude and completely vanished.

Vera could not explain the light she had seen at all. Most rational explanations can be discounted because of the unusual movement patterns. Planes cannot suddenly stop and hover motionless for a time. If it was a helicopter then she would have surely heard the noise, but she says it was completely silent. The whole sighting lasted a couple of minutes.

November 2003 – Stonnal

It was about 6pm on a clear November evening. Kevin was out on a food delivery to a Total garage situated on the Chester Road in the area of Stonnal. He made the delivery, and walked back outside to his lorry. As he reached it he looked in the direction of Birmingham. Due to the time of year it was already very dark. He saw what looked like a long glowing white cigar shaped object. As he stared at it he could also make out lights of various colours rotating around its centre. These lights were red, blue, green, yellow and possibly other colours. Kevin estimates that the object was about five miles away and was very large indeed, at least four times the size of a plane. The object was following the Birmingham airport flight line. As he watched, a normal aircraft passed close to but in front of the object, and then the object appeared to begin following the plane slowly across the skyline. He could hear the noise of the aircraft, but the UFO was completely silent. He watched it for at least 30 seconds, but he had a time limit for his next delivery so he had to continue on his journey. He got back into his cab, and when he looked back the object had vanished but he could still see the plane in the distance. There was no-one else around at the time except for someone manning the garage who would not have been allowed to leave their post.

This sighting is quite stunning and has many aspects that cannot be explained. Kevin is very good at judging distance of aircraft so it is unlikely it was a small object close to him. The object seemed much too large to be a lit up balloon of some kind, or a remote controlled model. Some of the lights he could see slowly rotating around it were of a colour not seen in normal aircraft warning lights. Also the fact that he could hear the other aircraft as it flew alongside the object shows that it was completely silent. It performed controlled manoeuvres, an appeared to be following the aircraft. All these facts make it a very interesting case.

August 2004 – Smethwick, Birmingham

This sighting occurred in the local vicinity of Kevin and Vera’s current house on Edith Road, Smethwick. It was the night of 8th August 2004 and Kevin decided to take the dog for a walk. As it was a very hot and humid night, Vera decided to keep the front door of the house open to cool down the living room while Kevin was out. It was a very clear and still night. Kevin took his usual route which lead around his local neighbourhood in the area of Cape Hill.

It was about 00.45am and he was about 2/3 of the way down Florence Road walking towards Montague Road. The dog stopped to mark his territory and Kevin turned round momentarily. As he turned back he noticed three bright white lights in a triangular formation moving in a southerly direction. The lights were not flashing at all and were totally silent. The lights were of equal distance to one another. Kevin could make out no connecting body between them. He assumed it was completely black in colour, as he could see that the object was blocking out the stars in between the lights. The object looked like it was 150 foot in the air. and quite large, about 100 foot in length. Kevin watched it for about 5 seconds before it disappeared behind some housing to his right, heading in the direction of his own house.

He hurried home to see if he could see it from his own road. The object had disappeared but his wife was standing on the doorstep looking puzzled. When he asked her about what had happened she explained that looking outside the front of the house to their parked car she had seen a bright white lights shining down on the roof of it. She assumed it was someone messing about with a torch so went outside to check. At this moment the lights vanished, and she saw nothing which could have been responsible for them.

Night photograph of witness location in direction he saw the UFO:

Both Kevin and his wife are familiar with normal aircraft as they often see them taking off and landing at Birmingham airport. The ones which fly overhead are quite loud, but whatever Kevin saw on that night was totally silent. He is certain it was not a conventional aircraft or helicopter of any kind.

This incident is certainly one of Kevin’s most impressive sightings. It seems to be of a classic Flying Triangle (FT). Craft very similar to this have been reported many times from all over the world – very large, triangular, black, and silent, with lights underneath at each corner. Some people assume that these are top secret military craft. However there is lots of evidence to suggest otherwise. Firstly, if they are supposed to be secret, why would the military fly these craft over populated cities? There have been a number of incidents where they have been seen to perform incredible manoeuvres in the blink of an eye, sometimes when aircraft have entered their proximity. Also there have been a number of reports of alien entities seen in the vicinity of these craft. It is impressive that Vera saw white lights on top of the car outside shortly after Kevin sighted the object heading in the direction of the property, it seems reasonable to assume that these lights were from the same object. It seems likely that there may have been other witnesses to this incident that have yet to come forward.

November 2004 – Cheltenham

Kevin currently works as a delivery driver, delivering food to shops and service stations. His route begins in Bromsgrove and covers Tewkesbury, villages in the Cotswolds and Cheltenham. On the evening of 3rd November 2004, he had finished his deliveries and was driving along the A4109 towards the M5 motorway. It was already dark, and the sky was overcast. As he passed through Uckington, just before reaching the M5, he noticed a red, slightly pulsing light just below the tree-line to his left.

He thought at first that it was following the road at a constant height, but as he was in a moving vehicle he assumed that it was fixed and this movement was an illusion. He decided that the light must be a marker light on top of an electricity pylon, as there is a nearby airport at Gloucester. However the following night when he drove the same route there was no red light present, and he has never seen it since.

Kevin feels it cannot have been an aircraft or helicopter as it was much too low, he estimates around 15 feet in the air. Also there were no other lights visible, just the single red light. He cannot say for certain whether or not the light was in motion, however if it was stationary there is not many explanations which would fit with what was observed. There were other vehicles on the road at the time, but Kevin is unsure if anyone else saw the light. It remains an interesting incident, and one which Kevin wishes he had an answer for.

November 2005 – Leckhampton

On Wednesday 2nd November 2005, Kevin was once again out on a food delivery in South Cheltenham. It was about 4.30pm and the sun was setting, and both a clear and still evening. As he was driving down one road towards two mini roundabouts, he saw a very bright white light in the sky over a nearby row of shops. As it was stationary he assumed it must be Venus. Suddenly the object started to move slowly, leaving behind a white smoky tail. Then without warning it shot off to the right of Kevin’s vision in the blink of an eye. He estimates it must have accelerated to at least 300mph in under a second. Kevin said that the speed it shot off at was unbelievable. He was not aware whether or not anyone else spotted the object.

Witness drawing showing view from van, object and direction it moved in:

Witness drawing showing object producing smoke trail:

The sudden acceleration that the object performed in this incident is very impressive and disproves many alternative explanations that could be given. The object could not have been a meteorite as when he first saw it, the object was stationary. If it was coming towards him and just appeared stationary then it would not have turned 90 degrees. There are a number of reported UFOs which have been seen to leave behind a trail of smoke in their wake, could this be a similar type of craft? As the object was apparently at quite a distance, it is hard to say whether it had a natural or un-natural explanation, but certain aspects seem to suggest the later.

2007 – Smethwick, Birmingham

From outside Kevin and Vera’s house it is possible to see Birmingham centre and the GPO Tower in the distance. After dark the red lights on the top of it are clearly visible. It was about 11-11.30pm at night, and quite cloudy. Kevin and Michael were outside the front door having a chat. They were looking East towards Birmingham when suddenly they noticed something very strange. To the left of the GPO Tower they saw what looked like a green fireball with a long tail descending vertically through the cloud. It travelled downwards until they lost sight of it due to the buildings in the distance.

Witness drawing showing viewpoint, object in distance and GPO Tower:

Several days later there was an article in the Sandwell and Great Barr Chronicle newspaper about the object, as other people had also seen it. However the newspaper passed it off as laser lights from a Broad Street club. The witnesses both knew this could not be the case. They are used to seeing the laser lights from the club in question. From their position the lights always appear to the right of the tower not to the left. Also there is never any beams seen, it is just possible to make out green patches of light on the cloud layer. I asked whether the “tail” seen behind the object could have been a laser light being displayed through fog, but they explained that although there were some clouds that evening, it was relatively clear with certainly no fog. Due to these reasons the laser light explanation is not sufficient.

Photograph of sighting location pointing in direction they saw the UFO:

One possibility is that the object was space debris of an unusual make-up which was burning green as it fell through the atmosphere. However meteorites and space debris generally appear white, yellow or orange when they burns up. It is certainly an unusual sighting and one that certainly occurred, the question is, what was it that was seen? Could it have been a similar object to what was seen back in 1963 at Cleobury Mortimer campsite?

September/October 2008 – Smethwick, Birmingham

It was approximately 10.30pm on a very clear night in the autumn of 2008. Kevin’s nephew Michael had come round to visit. Both witnesses were standing on the pavement opposite their house on Edith Road in Smethwick having a chat. The stars were out overhead and it was quite still. Looking towards the North West they noticed a single white moving light in the sky. It was moving quite fast in their direction. Kevin estimates it was about as fast as a fighter jet. It was almost overhead when suddenly it flared up extremely bright. The witnesses describe it as like “an explosion of white light”. It looked as if the object had got about ten times as large and was about ten times as bright. It only flared like this for a second before it returned to how it originally looked and continued across the sky until it was out of sight behind some trees. The witnesses only saw the object for less than a minute.

Photograph of sighting location pointing in direction the UFO appeared from:

This is an intriguing case. Is it possible that Kevin and Michael saw a satellite travelling across the night sky that caught the sun’s rays for a moment? When this was suggested Kevin said that it looked like it was moving too fast for a satellite, and also that the “flare up” effect that was witnessed seemed much too impressive to just be reflective light. The object was too fast to be a conventional aircraft or helicopter, but also too slow to be a meteorite. As previously mentioned, Kevin’s house lies below the flight path from Birmingham Airport, and also because of his experience working in the military, he can easily recognise known aircraft at night time. Both he and Michael are adamant that this was something different and could not be easily explained.

9th October 2009 – Smethwick, Birmingham

Early on the morning of Friday 9th October 2009, Michael was awoken by some very unusual sounds. The noises sounded like a jet engine starting up, accompanied with other strange creaking and bangs. As he listened they seemed to randomly change in volume, so would occassionally die down before becoming loud again, although never to the point that he could not hear them at all. He wondered what could be making the sounds, and was sure that they were coming from outside of the house. This was confirmed to him when he went to the bathroom and closed the window. When he did so the noises became quieter. He re-opened the window and it was louder again.

He went back into his bedroom and looked out of the window. It was still quite dark but the morning light was just starting to come up to the East. Most of the sky was covered in cloud, though to the East this cloud parted and became clearer. He noticed that his father’s car was not on the drive, which meant that he had left for work and the time was at least 5.45am, though Michael did not check the exact time.

Michael lives on Market Gardens, a cul-de-sac which resides next to Smethwick Hall Park. The park has large areas of grass with a childrens play area near the middle. A row of trees partially blocks the view from Michaels window, but he can still make out a large proportion of the park. When he looked out he could see a couple walking along the path which crosses the park. To his bemusement they did not appear to be reacting to the strange noises at all, it was almost as if they couldn’t hear them. This seemed very odd to Michael as the sounds were quite loud and appeared to be coming from the North across the far side of the park. He soon lost sight of the couple due to the lack of light.

Smethwick Hall Park:

Michael lay down but the noises continued and he was fascinated by what they may be. He propped himself up and again looked out of the window. It was now that he noticed a glowing constant white light to the North North East. The light was a short distance above the tree tops on the far side of the park, but looked like it was further away, about half a mile from his position. Michael estimates it was about 300 feet high. It was moving at a moderate speed, perhaps 50mph, on a level course in an Easterly direction. It kept the same altitude throughout, even though the area is on a slight slope. Michael was intrigued by the light, and watched it as it moved across the sky, occasionally obscured by the row of trees along his road.

View of the park from Michaels window:

As the light got to roughly level with his position, it reached the part of the sky that was beginning to be brightened by the morning sun. It was now that the object became clearer and he finally got to see it in more detail. He was absolutely astounded by what he saw. The object was a “classic” curved saucer shape and metallic dark grey in colour, and he was immediately convinced that he waas looking at a craft of some kind. On the top of the object was a rectangular shaped protrusion, and on this upper section was a white rotating light. It was rotating roughly every few seconds in an anti-clockwise direction. There was no visible beam coming out from it but it reminded Michael of a lighthouse. As it was rotating the light would alternately become dim then bright again. This was the only light visible on the object, but up until this point the white light had appeared a constant brightness, which is a puzzling aspect of the sighting. Michael estimates the object was at least 50 feet wide if it was as far away as it appeared to be.

Witness drawing of UFO:

Drawing done by Kevin based on Michael’s description:

Amazed by what he was witnessing, Michael continued to watch the object for a further 8 seconds until it was lost from view behind trees to the North East East. During this time he did not think to get a camera and try to photograph the object, but even if he had it would have disappeared before he had the chance. Once it had vanished from view he continued to hear the unusual sounds for a further 20 minutes or so. After this time the noises began to get quieter and he decided to go back to sleep for a couple of hours. When he woke back up the noises could no longer be heard at all. Soon after he got up, he told his brother John what he had seen and heard, but his brother had not been woken up at all.

Photograph showing route that the object took and position where it’s true shape became visible:

Map showing sighting location and estimated flight path of object:

Later in the day John went round to visit his girlfriend who lives within half a mile of him and Michael. When he informed her of what Michael had seen and heard, she told him that she too had heard the noise about 4.00-4.30am. On the following evening Michael found out that his Uncle Russell had also heard the noise for a short while about 5.00-5.15am while feeding his baby son. Russell too lives only a few streets away. It is very likely that other people in the area also heard the noise but it is unknown if anyone else saw the object as well, so further witnesses have come forward.

This is a fascinating sighting and one which has many interesting aspects. The object appeared to be powered rather than drifting. It was large in size and maintained a level flight path and constant speed for the duration of the sighting. Michael says it definitely appeared to have mass to it and be a solid object, he assumes that from underneath it would have appeared disc shaped, but he only saw it from a side on view. The revolving light on the top is another aspect which points towaerds it being an unusual craft of some kind, rather than an inflatable or balloon. The object seemed too large to be a remote controlled model, and if it was a hoax surely it would have been flown at a time of day where a lot more people would have witnessed it, rather than very early in the morning when most people would be asleep? It was quite clearly not a conventional aircraft of any kind, and other possibilities such as a meteorite or satellite can of course be completely ruled out. If it was a top secret military-owned craft, it seems very unlikely they would fly it across a highly populated city. If this was a genuine sighting of an extraterrestial craft, we can only speculate as to the function of the revolving white light. Perhaps it was scanning the area as it flew over it. Or could it have been a warning beacon to indicate its presence in the area?

One of the biggest questions regarding the case is of course whether or not the object was making the unusual sounds. It seems a very strange coincedence that these noises would be heard around the same time as the object was sighted, and appeared to be coming from the direction it was seen in. But in some ways the sounds appeared completely independent. They could be heard a while before, and a good 20 minutes after the object was no longer visible. If they were coming from the object, surely they would have been loudest as it passed Michaels position and then slowly faded away? But this was not the case, they appeared to get louder and quieter randomly for the duration, it was only 20 minutes after the sighting that they started to fade. Of course this theory assumes that the object was moving on the same flight path before and after it was visible to Michael. Perhaps it was stationary just out of sight prior to the sighting, and again stopped out of sight for a further 20 minutes before departing. If this scenario happened then the sounds could have quite feasibly come from the object. If the sounds did not come from the object what else could explain them? Michael mentioned that they sounded a bit like industrial machinery or a demolitions crew, but why would they have been working at this time of morning, surely that would be classed as noise pollution? If it was an ongoing building project in the nearby area, then why have the noises not been heard on other mornings too? Michael said the sounds were completely bizarre and like nothing he had ever heard before. At this time we cannot say for certain where they came from and whether they were linked with the UFO sighting or not.

If you have any further information on the sighting or the strange sounds heard, please get in contact with BUFOG.

5th March 2010 – Smethwick, Birmingham

On Friday 5th March 2010, Kevin was in his house. It was 2.50pm in the afternoon when he decided to let the dog out into the back yard. It was a dry and sunny day with only a few clouds in the sky. As he stood in the doorway waiting for the dog to come in, his attention was drawn to an aircraft in the sky lit up in the sunlight. It was a twin turbo prop aircraft and was flying to the South. Kevin estimates it was 2-3 miles away and flyng at an altitude of around 1000 feet.

As he watched, the aircraft passed under a small cloud. As it did, a small, brilliant white round object descended out of the cloud to the rear of the plane at 45 degrees. It then turned and appeared to follow the object for a moment, gaining on it. Just before it reached the tail of the aircraft it then climbed and disappeared back into the cloud. The whole incident took place over about five seconds, and the aircraft made no manouvres which would indicate anyone on board had seen the object.

Initially Kevin thought it may have been a bird, until he realised it was much too big and too high to be so. It’s movement pattern and speed suggest it was under intelligent control rather than simply a balloon or other object drifiting in the air. It was moving slightly faster than the aircraft, so must have been travelling at hundreds of miles an hour. It looked nothing like any conventional aircraft or helicopter.

Photograph taken 5 mins after sighting in correct direction, onto which Kevin has drawn the UFO, the path it took and the plane:

This is another interesting sighting by a reliable witness who is experienced in indentifying aerial objects. Due to the various reasons described above, most possible explanations can be discounted. It certainly appears that the UFO was interested in the plane and was observing it.. I would also suggest that it could have been knowingly using the cloud as cover until the plane had approached the area.

This sighting is remeniscent of the “Foo Fighter” sightings back in the Second World War, where glowing orbs of light were seen to follow aircraft, sometimes for quitea distance. Could Kevin have seen a similar object, perhaps a scout craft of some kind? We will probably never know for sure, but for now this sighting remains unexplained.

Conclusion

Kevin, Vera and Michael have experienced many unusual things over the years. I am convinced that they have seen the UFOs mentioned throughout this report. They seem very honest, open and, no pun intended, down to earth. They do not feel that there is an overall reason behind these sightings, and that they are personal to them. They believe that they have just been in the right place at the right time.

Kevin feels that the reason he has had so many sightings is because he covers a wide area due to his delivery job, and he often travels at night so has to remain very alert at all times. He believes that he has experienced advanced aircraft which are not simply top secret military craft. And to sum it up in his own words, “if we’re not building then someone else must be.”

The family has assured me that they will keep in touch about any further sightings they may have, so this report may well be updated in the future with new incidents.

This is my second attempt to report this event. My first time was to a local UFO website but I never heard back from anyone.  What I saw that morning has haunted and intrigued me everyday since.

I was in my truck at the intersection of Stassney Lane and IH 35 east bound on Stassney sitting at the stop light. It was rush hour and lots of other vehicles waiting as well.

It was a cloudy morning with a ceiling of no more then 1500 ft I estimated afterwards. As I was waiting at the light an object caught my eye just coming out of the clouds to my front and right. Other people at the light saw it as well.

The object a grayish metal color came partially out of the clouds. The portion of the object we all saw is best described as like the shape of a ram air parachute. This part that was visible was very large and you could see squared sections around the edges and was definitely made of some type of medal [metal].

Only a portion of the object came through the clouds and hovered and you could see the clouds moving past it. It was amazing.

I looked at other drivers and we all missed a cycle of the stop light watching this thing. It made no noise. It stay there for about 30 to 45 seconds and backed into the clouds and it was gone. It did not go straight up but backwards just like where it came from when it appeared.

I am a firefighter/EMT and have extensive knowledge of aircraft and flight space around Austin and this was not anything I have ever seen before or since. I tried looking up aircraft with similar shapes and size and found nothing.

I would be glad to make a drawing for you if needed.

PLEASE HELP ME TRY AND FIGURE OUT WHAT I SAW AND HELP ME PUT MY MIND TO REST.

Thank you
John Cole

The Message From Planet Jim

Inside James Cameron’s head, there’s a place called Planet Jim (a description provided by one of his minions in the video clip below). It is a fundamentally extraterrestrial place in the purest sense of that word — ranging from the oceanic abyss to the depths of outer space. It is often depicted in shades of “James Cameron blue.” The largest audience in the history of entertainment has been there now, thanks to “ Avatar.” His ability to captivate so many people has led him to the  Academy Awards ceremony tonight with nine Oscar nominations.  Ghosts Of The Eastern 401 Disaster

My experience with the story of Eastern Flight 401 began early in 1973. I flew from Tampa, Florida, to New York City and back several times that year. Most of my close relatives lived in the New York City area. During school breaks, I took the opportunity to combine visits with them with opportunities to attend various paranormal seminars scheduled for that year.
At sixteen, I was an experienced traveler and made most of my own airline reservations and arrangements. I hated crowds and loved red eye flights. Traveling at odd hours was no big deal for me. During the middle of Summer Break 1973, I was aboard a Sunday afternoon EAL flight that seemed almost empty. In those days there were always more flight attendants than needed on the off peak hours flights. The younger, less experienced crew members tended to hob knob with passengers. That’s how I met Susan. (I am being polite: Flight Attendants were called Stewardesses if they were women and Stewards if they were men in those days) Read The rest Here.

Two glowing orb UFOs move across Florida skies

A Florida witness reports two glowing metalilic orbs moving across sky on March 5, according to testimony from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) database.
The witness reports that “they flew so tight together and at perfect speed and distance as to seem to be attached.”
The following is the unedited and as yet uninvestigated report filed with MUFON. Please keep in mind that most UFO reports can be explained as something natural or manmade. If Florida MUFON investigates and reports back on this case, I will release an update.

FL, March 5, 2010 – two silver metallic orbs with a slight glow where in exact flying alignment and made a sweeping arc across our field of view and then striaghten out and flew quickly straing south out of view over the ocean. MUFON Case # 22172. Read the rest here.

A UFO Flies in Brooklyn

“Oh my!  They’re coming to get us!”
That was Richard Taveras‘ fiancée’s reaction when they first set their eyes upon a bright twinkling light that seemed to hover over theirWilliamsburg neighborhood.
“It has, let’s call it, a headlight, so it would spin and if you see in the video it would focus in on us,” Richard Taveras told NBCNewYork.
He and his betrothed have now seen these objects four times in the past two months and recorded it twice.  Once, they also recorded what appears to be a hovering egg-like object.

Sean David Morton: Making Toast of Coast-to-Coast?

on by NW0.eu in UFOs, Comments (0)

We are known by the company we keep.

Wouldn’t you love to be a fly on the wall at Coast-to-Coast AM staff meetings these days — you know, the overnight radio folks who made “psychic” Sean David Morton a frequent guest, star and literally a part of the Coast family ever since the early days of Art Bell’s nightly hosting? You can read all about the latest troubling financial allegations involving SDM via current news sources, so I won’t elaborate on them here.

The Web site, UFO Watchdog (see link) posted Morton prominently in its “Hall of Shame” section (must see) years ago, but words of caution never diverted Coast from incorporating this gentleman into the show on numerous occasions. After all, the listeners love him, the hosts apparently love him, and the producers — well, I suspect the producers may have become lax over the years, finding it necessary to frequently invite as guests almost anything that snorts, squeaks, grunts or spits, so long as doing so keeps the audience listening and purchasing sponsors’ products. But mixing the spice and the sensational with an increasingly anemic format may not bode well for the future, despite the truly useful or entertaining interviews conducted on the show occasionally.

The barrel bottom’s contents ultimately grow lean and sparks of longevity fizzle, however, particularly when it’s common knowledge that a fair number of (UFO) researchers with legitimate things to say simply won’t go near the microphone on radio’s overnight yawn show.

Sorry folks, but except for its global broadcast abilities, Coast wasn’t the first to do this brand of program, and numerous others dating back to the fifties did it as well or better, and more intimately. Refreshingly, alleged scam artists and others of questionable repute were generally treated, not as members of the family, but as curiosities. All I know is, next time a comet shows up, I’ll be tuning in to Coast-to-Coast AM to find out how many UFOs accompany it, so I can relay this valuable information to my local cult leaders. They need it to prepare for the bitter end, you know — like last time.

Man stationed at Fort Yukon files a report to MUFON

on by NW0.eu in UFOs, Comments (0)

MUFON Case # 22214
Date/time:    05/09/1974 18:14
Location:    Ft. Yukon, Alaska
Shape:    Cigar
Summary:    Radar acquisition of object

Report:
My name is James Beaman. From Jan 1974 thru December 1975, I was stationed at Ft. Yukon Acws site in FT Yukon Alaska, which is part of the early warning system. The site was manned by USAF personnel. Many times during the evening shifts we would get radar images of unidentified aircraft molesting civilian aircraft bound to different destinations through out the world. These aircraft were incredibly fast and could turn on a dime. We had several times that the aircraft in question would molest an SR 71 heading through Alaskan airspace. You know haw fast the SR71 is. The manual ground speed, as determined by the operators was over 2600 hundred miles per hour. These craft would com in from different headings and molest the aircraft for a few minutes and then sped away in some different direction. Some of these turns were impossible for the Military and the civilian aircraft.

When these air space incursions happened to military and civilian aircraft alike Anchorage Center would yell on the hot box if we had any military aircraft molesting the civilian aircraft. Our procedure at the time was to turn on the scope camera to record the incidents. I am sure there are records of these interdictions in the USAF files, if you know what to look for.

The reason I am writing this letter today Is that I am watching the story of the JAL pilot that saw a UFO over Alaska in the 1980’s. I want to tell you that I am sure this Pilot saw what he saw. If you look deeper into the incidents over Alaskan Air Space you will definitely find the proof you need. I am not sure what the USAF did with the record of these incursions. But I know they happened and there is a lot of guys stationed in Fort Yukon, Alaska that could tell you more about these incidents.

The Fantastic Flight of JAL1628

November 17, 1986
Over northeastern Alaska

ufoevidence.org- It was just a routine flight. Well, not exactly routine…. It was a special Japan Air Lines 747 cargo flight to carry a load of French wine from Paris to Tokyo. The flight plan would carry flight 1628 from Paris to Reykjavik, Iceland, across the North Atlantic and Greenland, then across Canada to Anchorage, Alaska, and finally across the Pacific to Tokyo. The crew consisted of veteran Captain Kenju Terauchi, co-pilot Takanori Tamefuji, and flight engineer Yoshio Tsukuba.

On November 16, 1986, laden with wine, JAL1628 took off from Paris and flew the first leg of the trip, to Reykjavik. The next day, they continued, flying over Greenland and then across northern Canada without event.

Just after they crossed into Alaska, at 5:09 PM local time, Anchorage Air Traffic Control contacted them on the radio to report initial radar contact. The Anchorage flight controller asked them to turn 15 degrees to the left and head for a point known as Talkeetna on a heading of 215 degrees. They were at 35,000 feet and traveling at a ground speed of about 600 mph.

At about 5:11 PM local time, Captain Terauchi noticed the lights of some sort of aircraft about 2000 feet below and 30 degrees to the left front of them. He decided that the aircraft was probably an American jet fighter from nearby Eielson or Elmendorf Air Force Bases patrolling Alaskan airspace, so he ignored them at first. However, after a few minutes, he noticed that the lights were keeping pace with his own aircraft, which would be an unusual thing for patrolling jets to do.

It was about seven or so minutes since we began paying attention to the lights (when), most unexpectedly, two spaceships stopped in front of our face, shooting off lights. The inside cockpit shined brightly and I felt warm in the face.

Terauchi said that it was his impression that the two objects he had seen below them minutes before had suddenly jumped in from of him. The craft, one above the other, kept pace with the 747 for several minutes, moving in unison with an odd rocking motion. After about seven minutes, they changed to a side-by-side arrangement. Terauchi said that the “amber and whitish” lights were like flames coming out of multiple rocket exhaust ports arranged in two rectangular rows on the craft. He felt that they fired in a particular sequence to stabilize the craft, much like the small maneuvering thrusters on the Space Shuttle. He also reported seeing sparks like a fire when using gasoline or carbon fuel.

Co-pilot Tamefuji described the lights as “Christmas assorted” lights with a “salmon” color. He said: I remember red or orange, and white landing light, just like a landing light. And weak green, ah, blinking. He also described the lights as pulsating slowly. They became stronger, became weaker., became stronger, became weaker, different from strobe lights. The lights were “swinging” in unison as if there were “very good formation flight…close” of two aircraft side by side. He described the appearance of the lights as similar to seeing “night flight head-on traffic”, where it is only possible to see the lights on an approaching aircraft and “we can not see the total shape.” He said, I’m sure I saw something. It was clear enough to make me believe that there was an oncoming aircraft.

Flight engineer Tsukuba, who sat behind the copilot, did not have as good a view of the lights. He first saw them “through the L1 window at the 11 o’clock position” and he saw “clusters of lights undulating”. These clusters were “made of two parts…shaped like windows of an airplane”. He emphasized that “the lights in front of us were different from town lights.” He described the colors as white or amber.

Tamefuji decided to call Anchorage Air Traffic Control, and for the next thirty minutes the 747 and AARTCC were in constant contact regarding the UFO.

During this time, Captain Terauchi asked Tskububa to hand him a camera so that he could attempt to take a photograph of the lights. However, Terauchi was unfamiliar with the camera and could not get it to operate. Tsukuba also could not get his camera to operate due to problems with the auto-focus and finally gave up trying to take a photo.

At this point they began experiencing some radio interference and were asked by Anchorage to change frequencies. Terauchi later said that Anchorage kept asking him about clouds in the immediate area: They asked us several times if there were clouds near our altitude. We saw thin and spotty clouds near the mountain below us, no clouds in mid-to-upper air, and the air current was steady.

Soon after the exchanges about clouds, the objects flew off to the left. Terauchi said later: There was a pale white flat light in the direction where the ships flew away, moving in a line along with us, in the same direction and same speed and at the same altitude as we were.

Terauchi decided to see whether they could see anything on the 747’s own radar:

I thought it would be impossible to find anything on an aircraft radar if a large ground radar did not show anything, but I judged the distance of the object visually and it was not very far. I set the digital weather radar distance to 20 (nautical) miles, radar angle to horizon (i.e., no depression angle). There it was on the screen. A large green and round object had appeared at 7 or 8 miles (13 km to 15 km) away, where the direction of the object was. We reported to Anchorage center that our radar caught the object within 7 or 8 miles in the 10 o’clock position. We asked them if they could catch it on ground radar but it did not seem they could catch it at all

At 5:25:45, after spending two minutes looking, the military radar at Elmendorf Regional Operational Control Center also picked up something. The ROCC radar controller reported back to the AARTCC that he was getting some “surge primary return.” By this he meant an occasional radar echo unaccompanied by a transponder signal.

A Gigantic Spaceship!

As the 747 neared Fairbanks:
The lights (of the city) were extremely bright to eyes that were used to the dark. (The cockpit lights had been turned off to eliminate window reflections of internal lights.) We were just above the bright city lights and we checked the pale white light behind us. Alas! There was a silhouette of a gigantic spaceship. We must run away quickly! “Anchorage Center. The JAL1628 is requesting a change of course to right 45 degrees.” It felt like a long time before we received permission

Just after the plane turned to the right, the AARTCC controller called the Fairbanks Approach Radar controller to find out whether or not the short-range radar had a target near the JAL. The approach radar reported no target other than JAL1628.

The plane came out of the turn and flew toward Talkeetna at an altitude of 31,000 ft, with the object still following.

At about 5:40 a United Airlines passenger jet took off from Anchorage and headed north to Fairbanks. The AARTCC controller decided to ask the UA pilot to try to see the object that was following the JAL flight. The UA pilot said he would look when he got closer. The controller asked the JAL flight to stay at 31,000 ft and the UA flight to stay at 29,000 ft. He then directed the UA flight to turn some more so that the planes would pass within five miles of one another.

As the United Airlines jet got closer, the UFO apparently dropped behind, allowing the JAL plane to get far ahead. The United pilot asked the AARTCC to have the JAL pilot flash the headlights on the JAL aircraft so he could locate the plane. At 5:49:45 the JAL pilot did that. At this point the planes were about 25 miles apart.

When the planes were about 12 miles apart, the UA plane reported seeing the JAL plane and nothing else. But by this time the UFO had apparently disappeared, not being seen by JAL1628, either.

At about 5:51, the AARTCC requested that a military TOTEM flight in the area also fly toward the JAL plane for a look. During the next several minutes TOTEM viewed the JAL plane but couldn’t see any other traffic. JAL1628 proceeded to Anchorage and landed at 6:20 PM.

The FAA conducted an investigation of the incident, and did not issue its final report until March 5. CSICOP’s (Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal)Phil Klass issued a premature statement on January 22 claiming that the UFOs were the planets Jupiter and Mars – an impossible solution because the UFO was seen in a part of the sky opposite the position of these planets and because the UFOs moved from positions one above the other to side by side. CSICOP later issued a second explanation that the UFO was light reflecting off of clouds of ice crystals – also unlikely because the sky was clear at the reported altitude of the UFO. The FAA attributed the radar images received by ground radar to a “split radar return from the JAL Boeing 747.”

Note:  I seriously doubt that the USAF would turn over these records.  They certainly didn’t offer them up at the time of flight JAL1628

Alone Again: Naturally?

on by NW0.eu in UFOs, Comments (0)

Professor Paul Davies’ new book The Eerie Silence: Are we alone in the universe? was published on 5 March and is highly recommended for anyone interested in the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) and ‘UFOs’. I blogged about Davies’s views on UFOs earlier this year and the book has now been reviewed by Jon Ronson in The Guardian and by Lord Martin Rees in The Times.

Particularly worth reading are Davies’s comments on UFOs and government cover-ups (discussed in Chapter 1). As a student at Royal Holloway during the 1970s Davies was a believer in UFOs as craft visiting Earth from other worlds, and was convinced by the catalogues of ground traces and radar trackings used by UFOlogists as proof that structured craft from elsewhere are regularly visiting Earth.

But his mature views after 40 years as a SETI scientist are worth contrasting with the beliefs of Stan Friedman, Tim Good and the ‘disclosure movement’. As chair of the SETI Post-Detection Task Group, it would be Davies who would be the first to announce to the world that contact has been made with an extraterrestrial civilisation, as they would be first to receive it. And he would do that via the scientific community, making any notion that governments would or could successfully conceal such amazing news redundant.

In his review of the book Jon Ronson mentions that at the recent Royal Society conference to mark the 50th anniversay of SETI, a man in dark glasses stood up during the Q&A session with Davies to announce: “Why does SETI ignore what’s right in front of us? The 6,000 abductions! The 10,000 cattle mutilations!” His succinct answer was: “To expect alien technology to be just a few decades ahead of ours is too incredible to be taken seriously.” To Davies, unpicking the mysteries of the universe utilising fundamental physics and astrobiology leads to a far more satisfying explanation of the wonders of nature, compared to which the UFO abduction industry is merely a updated medieval demonology.

On the subject of UFOs, Davies appears to have reached the same conclusion as others such as Jenny Randles, Paul Devereux and myself namely that, despite scepticism borne of past experience in investigating UFO incidents:

“it would not surprise me if a small fraction of cases involve new or little-understood atmospheric or psychological phenomena. But whatever lies behind that stubborn residue of hard-to-explain cases, I see no reason to attribute them to the activities of alien beings visiting our planet in flying saucers. UFOs, like ghost stories, are fun to read, but cannot be taken seriously as evidence for extraterrestrial beings. They do serve a useful purpose, however, by providing a window on how the human mind imagines aliens and alien technology. What is striking about the accounts is not their weird and otherworldly character, but their distinctly mundane and human-like quality. We would surely expect of extraterrestrials something more extraordinary than humanoid beings piloting the equivalent of souped-up Stealth bombers” (pg 22 of The Eerie Silence).

This is a viewpoint which is entirely sympathetic to my own position after 20 years on the flying saucer beat. As I was quoted by The Times: on 18 February “I think either aliens are watching our TV and adapting their aircraft accordingly, or people are seeing these things in popular culture and adapting them in their own imagination.”
