Obama To Block Release Of Incriminating Photos
on 10/03/2010 (5 days ago) by NW0.eu in Police State, Comments (0)

‘On Wednesday, Obama said he “would try to block the court-ordered release of photos showing U.S. troops abusing prisoners.” The release, which was to be the result of a Freedom of Information Act request made by the ACLU, had been reasonable in the final weeks of April, but today, Obama chose to come out against the release.
According to the Associated Press, “out of concern [that] the pictures would “further inflame anti-American opinion” and endanger U.S. forces in Iraq and Afghanistan” Obama planned to block them.’

By Guest Blogger XX,
The New York Times reports that Obama has escalated his attacks on “failing schools.”
The Times outlines a recent speech in which Obama “favored federal rewards for local school districts that fire underperforming teachers and close failing schools, saying educators needed to be held accountable when they failed to fix chronically troubled classrooms and curb the student [...]
Obama Gets Visited by Ghosts of Presidents Past
on 04/03/2010 (2 weeks ago) by NW0.eu in Politics, Comments (0)
This is pretty cool if you have been a fan of the history of Saturday Night Live and the actors who played the presidents. Sadly, Phil Hartman who did the best television Reagan ever (among other great things) is no longer with us, so they called in someone else to fill his shoes.
There’s actually a message at the end of the video … enjoy (the video was directed by Ron Howard):

Glenn Beck Creates His Own Shepard Fairey-Inspired Obama ‘Hope’ Poster, Featuring…

Hmm … I tend to think this particular Founding Father would NOT be happy with Glenn Beck using his image … but he’s been dead for a long time. I bring that up for legal reasons, because helps to define what we call the “public domain.”
So actually, even though Shepard Fairey’s Obama art is legally problematic, I do wonder if Beck can do this under “fair use.”
Legal scholars, your opinion is welcome. (And those who have something to say about Glenn Beck…)
P.S. Glenn Beck “paints”?!?

Americans United for Change and American Family Voices unveiled a new television ad today as part of a ramped up coalitional effort urging Congress to pass President Obama’s financial regulatory reform plan to make Wall Street more transparent and accountable and prevent another financial crisis. The new ad comes as Citi, one of the largest recipients of taxpayer dollars, revealed how Wall Street is fully back to business as usual by announcing plans to create “the first derivatives intended to pay out in the event of a financial crisis.”

Complete Control

From Nick P. at Black Sun Gazette:
We’re going on two years of the global economic crisis that has rocked our society to its foundations. All the conventional wisdom of the post-war era about the eradication of social inequality and class conflict under the auspices of continual capitalist development has been exposed as a propagandist deception.
Any illusions that people had in the ability of capitalism to solve the world’s problems has rapidly evaporated. Even as conditions worsen, the contradictions of our system are laid bare.
Why Do People Vote Against Their Own Interests?

BBC News reports:
Last year, in a series of “town-hall meetings” across the country, Americans got the chance to debate President Obama’s proposed healthcare reforms.
What happened was an explosion of rage and barely suppressed violence.
Polling evidence suggests that the numbers who think the reforms go too far are nearly matched by those who think they do not go far enough.
But it is striking that the people who most dislike the whole idea of healthcare reform — the ones who think it is socialist, godless, a step on the road to a police state — are often the ones it seems designed to help.
In Texas, where barely two-thirds of the population have full health insurance and over a fifth of all children have no cover at all, opposition to the legislation is currently…

YouTube Censors Marijuana Question In Obama Interview
on 02/02/2010 by NW0.eu in Police State, Comments Off
Thanks Steve for the news tip! Steve Elliott writes in the Toke of the Town:
If you voted for marijuana as a CitizenTube question, then your vote didn’t count. Yes, questions about marijuana were the most popular in the CitizenTube voting Monday afternoon.
But YouTube, in a gutless move, decided at the last minute not to present the highest ranked questions to the President. Initial reports that the President had ignored the marijuana questions were inaccurate; YouTube took pot, the top vote getter, out of the running.
President Obama never even got an opportunity to answer the most popular question of all.
Wait, what? “We’ll let you vote, but don’t expect it to actually MEAN anything.”
If they were going to ignore the questions that got the most votes, then why, exactly, did YouTube ask viewers to…

Arianna Huffington: ‘Hope’ Has Been a Bust, It’s Time for Hope 2.0
on by NW0.eu in World News, Comments Off
Arianna Huffington writes on the Huffington Post:
On the eve of the first anniversary of President Obama’s inauguration, it’s become painfully obvious that elected officials are not going to save us. The 2008 election was all about “Hope.” But Hope is simply not cutting it.
What we need is Hope 2.0: the realization that our system is too broken to be fixed by politicians, however well intentioned — that change is going to have to come from outside Washington.
This realization is especially resonant as we celebrate Dr. King, whose life and work demonstrate the vital importance of social movements in bringing about change. Indeed, King showed that no real change can be accomplished without a movement demanding it.
As Frederick Douglass put it: “Power never concedes anything without a demand; it never has…
